FireFox – Loading and Switching Profiles

When you have more than one profile in FF, apparently you will need to load one or the other on a regular.

If you are the only user with multiple profiles, the following method would be the most sensible way to go.

1: Open FireFox

2: Type About:Profiles in the URL bar to access the About Profiles window.

3: Notice the currently active profile. Find the profile you’d like to switch to and click its “Set as default profile” button. The buttons will shift a bit to reflect the changes.

4: Manually close and restart FireFox. The profile you set as default will now be loaded. Simple enough.

**If you need to load another profile without leaving your current session and/or without making it the default, click the “Launch profile in new browser” button under the profile you choose to load. A totally separate window will open with the profile loaded. You can do this with as many windows as needed. Possibly having all of your profiles loaded at once.

You can also choose which profile you’d like to load before the FireFox browser actually launches with a simple command. This method of loading profiles is the most ideal when there are multiple people sharing a single FireFox installation. Doesn’t matter though. You can use it under whatever circumstance you desire.

1: Go to the START MENU or hit WINDOWS+R to open the run dialog box.

2: Type Firefox.exe –p and hit ENTER. (There must be a space between the .exe and the –p)

3: In the “Choose User Profile” window select the profile you would like to load and click Start Firefox.

**You can opt to “Use the selected profile without asking at startup”. This box is checked by default for you. This means that the profile you choose will be set as default and will load automatically the next time Firefox is launched. You would have to use the –p command again if you ever want to see the profile pre-loader window again. If you uncheck this box the selected profile will only load once. Each time you start Firefox, the profile chooser will run first so you can pick which profile to load.
