Applying The Replace Function In Bulk Rename Utility
Bulk Rename Utility. One of my favorite tools for file management, specifically renaming. This is what BRU is all about and it happens to be one of the apps that does it well. I will quickly give you an intro to one of the most commonly used functions in Bulk Rename Utility. The “Replace” function.
The interface in BRU is not the prettiest, but it is fast, lightweight and stable as ever. The type of stuff innovators need to do what they do. It looks confusing at first glance but never fret. We’ll soon cover every function with clear concise detail in future posts. Follow me and soon you will be renaming like a pro and wondering what the hell you were doing without BRU all these years.
OK, diving straight in… Here’s an example. I start with a few files. I want to replace the letters “HTPI” in every file name with “Honolulu”. You know, since I happen to be on a white sand beach in Honolulu sipping a pina colada on a Wednesday when I came up with the brilliant idea for the HTP logo, you know. 🙂
Here’s what they looked like before BRU’s “Replace” function was applied.

Once Inside Bulk Rename Utility, we replace “HTPI” with “Honolulu”.

Hit “Rename” in the bottom right corner and this warning box will appear. Are you SURE?!

We tap “OK” to tell BRU we KNOW what we’re doing and are comfortable with the file name edits. It will execute the commands and give us a confirmation upon successful processing of file name changes.

Here are those same files after BRU did its thing!

Keep in mind, this same results could have been achieved on 500 files all at once using the exact same procedure!
Trust me, I have done it the long way too many times to count. You decide which approach you’d rather take. If you want to learn more about Bulk Rename Utility and other file management tools to take your innovation and workflow to another level, we got you. We will go over BRU function in detail soon, covering every section. It has eased my workload in the area of data and file organization tremendously. I am sure it can help you as well….
