FireFox – Deleting Profiles

DELETING FIREFOX PROFILES AND FOLDERS

Keep in mind the difference between a FireFox profile and its folder. You can delete a profile from the browser but keep the folder that actually contains all of the profile data! In reverse you can delete the profile folder itself but the profile will still be present in FireFox. Apparently it wouldn’t load because there would be nothing to load in this case, but Firefox will still show that a profile existed.

1: Launch Firefox

2: Type about:profiles in the URL bar and press ENTER

3: Identify the correct profile.

4: Make sure the profile you are about to delete is NOT the default profile and is NOT in use. If it is, change it. In the example below, we’re all clear

5: Take note of the Root and Local directories. You may need them if you decide to manually delete folders later. If the profile folder is custom, there will be no local directory, only a root.

6: Click the “REMOVE” button below the profile to be deleted.

7:  Here you have two critical options.

OPTION 1 – If you want to simply remove the profile from the Firefox list “DON’T DELETE FILES” is your friend! This option will not touch or remove the actual profile folder in any way. So don’t trip. Delete them shits. In this case you would have to navigate to the profile folders in explorer and delete them manually. This is why we paid extra attention to the folder paths in step 5.

OPTION 2 – If you want EVERYTHING GONE WITH NO UNDO, “DELETE FILES” is the way to go. This will remove the profile Root Directory along with the Local Directory, if one exists. This means no more bookmarks, plugins, history, settings, etc. Everything for the associated profile will be deleted from within FireFox and from the computer period!!!! ARE YOU SURE looking head?

The other option is to cancel, if you change your mind. This is obvious.

So now you can’t be sitting up here talkin’ bout “Mozilla did this” and “FireFox did that”. Nope……… Stop that.

If it gets deleted, you can finally say, “I did it”.

And after following our FireFox guides, you have no reason to be accidentally deleting profiles. Get yourself together.  🙂

Happy Browsing!
