Fix Scratch Disk Full in Photoshop

The scratch disk issue can happen for many reasons. Sometimes its actually full, many times it is not and there is an error taking place. Whatever the case, you might run into some messages like these…

 

So let’s correct this.

There are 2 ways to access the scratch disk settings in Photoshop. pre-launch and in-app. Both are quite simple and straight forward.

Access Scratch Disk During Photoshop Launch

1. Hold down these two keys while launching Photoshop.

Windows: Control+Alt 

MacOS: Control+Option

The Scratch Disk Preferences’ window will appear before Photoshop launches.

 

2. Add a new scratch disk if you need to or make any other needed changes.

 

3. Press OK when done and Photoshop will finish loading.

Access Scratch Disk In Photoshop Preferences

1. Launch Photoshop.

 

2. Click ‘Edit’ in the menu bar. Hover over ‘Preferences’ and select ‘Performance’ in the sub-menu.

This will take you directly to the scratch disk settings.

 

3. Add a new scratch disk if you need to or make any other needed changes.

 

4. Press OK when done. Restart Photoshop if you want to be extra with it.
