The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is an agency in the U.S. Department of Commerce that issues patents to inventors and businesses for their inventions, and trademark registration for product and intellectual property identification.

The USPTO is “unique among federal agencies because it operates solely on fees collected by its users, and not on taxpayer dollars”. Its “operating structure is like a business in that it receives requests for services—applications for patents and trademark registrations—and charges fees projected to cover the cost of performing the services it provides”.

According to Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution, the USPTO “promotes the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.”

Grants To Individuals
Foundation Directory Online

Every year, millions of nonprofits spend trillions of dollars around the world. Candid finds out where that money comes from, where it goes, and why it matters. Through research, collaboration, and training, Candid connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to do it. Candid’s data tools on nonprofits, foundations, and grants are the most comprehensive in the world. Foundation Center and GuideStar joined forces to become Candid, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.

Foundation Directory Online (FDO) delivers quality funding prospects. By combining exhaustive data with intuitive search functionality and informative data visualizations, FDO delivers the information you need to reach your fundraising goals quickly and efficiently.

Candid provides helps with grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit and organization structuring, managing and building leadership teams and many other needs for funding and operating your ideas and foundations. They have a large database that can be accessed to find detailed information on funders, lenders and grant services.

GrantMakers.io

Grantmakers.io makes the machine-readable IRS 990 dataset usable for nonprofit professionals. It was created by Chad Kruse, who originally built the site for a friend, and open sourced it for the world when he saw how useful the data was to her. Fewer trips to the library to conduct simple donor searches meant more time to run her nonprofit.

Then the amazing folks at Algolia stepped in and provided an expanded free tier to their search service which made the 990-PF portion of the dataset entirely searchable. The speed and accuracy of their search is truly remarkable – it’s the search nonprofits deserve. From there it’s been 🔥.

Grantmakers.io serves as an example of the power of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Anyone can access it without paying (free as in food), and anyone can leverage the code to continue innovating in however they please (free as in freedom).

Grantmakers.io was originally built to help a friend find information on a specific funding prospect previously identified. Profiles Search was the first search tool created and is optimized to quickly find a funder’s profile (if one exists).

The Grants Search tool was developed to allow fundraisers to do basic prospecting by exploring which foundations have donated to similar grantees in the past. Just remember the limitations mentioned above, specifically that the dataset only covers 50-60% of private foundations.

FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation), is a data analytics company based in San Jose, California, focused on credit scoring services. It was founded by Bill Fair and Earl Isaac in 1956. Its FICO score, a measure of consumer credit risk, has become a fixture of consumer lending in the United States.

In 2013, lenders purchased more than 10 billion FICO scores and about 30 million American consumers accessed their scores themselves. The company reported a revenue of $1.29 billion dollars for the fiscal year of 2020.

FICO went public in 1986 and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The company debuted its first general-purpose FICO score in 1989. FICO scores are based on credit reports and “base” FICO scores range from 300 to 850, while industry-specific scores range from 250 to 900. Lenders use the scores to gauge a potential borrower’s creditworthiness. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac first began using FICO scores to help determine which American consumers qualified for mortgages bought and sold by the companies in 1995.

A measure of credit risk, FICO scores are available through all of the major consumer reporting agencies in the United States: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. FICO scores are also offered in other markets, including Mexico and Canada, as well as through the fourth U.S. credit reporting bureau, PRBC.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is responsible for the determination, assessment, and collection of internal revenue in the United States. This revenue consists of personal and corporate income taxes, excise, estate, and gift taxes, as well as employment taxes for the U.S. Social Security system.

As the revenue service of the United States federal government the IRS collects taxes and administers the Internal Revenue Code, the main body of federal statutory tax law. The duties of the IRS include providing tax assistance to taxpayers; pursuing and resolving instances of erroneous or fraudulent tax filings; and overseeing various benefits programs, including the Affordable Care Act.

The IRS originates from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, a federal office created in 1862 to assess the nation’s first income tax to fund the American Civil War. The temporary measure provided over a fifth of the Union’s war expenses before being allowed to expire a decade later. In 1913, the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified authorizing Congress to impose a tax on income, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue was established. In 1953, the agency was renamed the Internal Revenue Service, and in subsequent decades underwent numerous reforms and reorganizations, most significantly in the 1990s.

Since its establishment, the IRS has been responsible for collecting most of the revenue needed to fund the federal government, albeit while facing periodic controversy and opposition over its methods, constitutionality, and the principle of taxation generally. In recent years the agency has struggled with budget cuts and reduced morale. As of 2018, it saw a 15 percent reduction in its workforce, including a decline of more than 25 percent of its enforcement staff. Nevertheless, during the 2017 fiscal year, the agency processed more than 245 million returns and collected more than $3.4 trillion in gross revenue, spending 34¢ for every $100 it collected.

Operating on a non-profit-making basis, BMI is now the largest music rights organization in the U.S. and is still nurturing new talent and new music.

BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that want to play their music publicly. As a global leader in music rights management, BMI serves as an advocate for the value of music, representing over 17 million musical works created and owned by more than 1.1 million songwriters, composers and music publishers.

BMI supports its songwriters, composers and publishers by taking care of an important aspect of their careers – getting paid. U.S. Copyright Office – Website

Everyone is a copyright owner. Once you create an original work and fix it, like taking a photograph, writing a poem or blog, or recording a new song, you are the author and the owner.

Works are original when they are independently created by a human author and have a minimal degree of creativity. Independent creation simply means that you create it yourself, without copying. The Supreme Court has said that, to be creative, a work must have a “spark” and “modicum” of creativity. There are some things, however, that are not creative, like: titles, names, short phrases, and slogans; familiar symbols or designs; mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, or coloring; and mere listings of ingredients or contents. And always keep in mind that copyright protects expression, and never ideas, procedures, methods, systems, processes, concepts, principles, or discoveries.

The Library of Congress (LC) is the research library that officially serves the United States Congress and is the de facto national library of the United States. It is the oldest federal cultural institution in the United States. The library is housed in three buildings on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.; it also maintains a conservation center in Culpeper, Virginia. The library’s functions are overseen by the Librarian of Congress, and its buildings are maintained by the Architect of the Capitol. The Library of Congress is one of the largest libraries in the world. Its “collections are universal, not limited by subject, format, or national boundary, and include research materials from all parts of the world and in more than 450 languages.”

The library’s primary mission is to research inquiries made by members of Congress, which is carried out through the Congressional Research Service. It also houses and oversees the United States Copyright Office. The library is open to the public for research, although only high-ranking government officials and library employees may check out (i.e., remove from the premises) books and materials.

Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship as soon as an author fixes the work in a tangible form of expression. In copyright law, there are a lot of different types of works, including paintings, photographs, illustrations, musical compositions, sound recordings, computer programs, books, poems, blog posts, movies, architectural works, plays, and so much more.

Hello, my name is Brian and I’m the CAD guy and owner of I Draw Dreams. “I Draw Dreams” is a Computer Aided Design company based in Central Oregon. I create virtual and physical prototypes, as per client’s plans, or, designing and creating prototypes through working with the clients inputs. I make CAD manufacturing files for plastic injection molding, steel or aluminum framing, sheet-metal parts or even projects that involve woodworking. I can make you marketing videos, presentation files, and even a professional website that you own, not rent, for presenting and licensing your product.

My background started with going to college for commercial art & marketing, followed by 3-1/2 years of automotive technology trade school, which led to a 15 year career as a mechanic for Oldsmobile and Cadillac. I changed careers in 1989 and became a licensed general contractor for the next 25 years. While I was a contractor, I went back to college and studied Calculus for two years. Along with the math classes, I took computer aided design classes and I learned to draw my own plans, designing remodels and house projects using 3D design software.

I morphed my previous careers, drawing on all the experiences, to create “I Draw Dreams For Inventors.” My previous CAD experience, along with my current business, has given me nearly 20 years of combined 3D modeling experience, toward the development of real world solutions to mechanical challenges that work. Problem solving is the linchpin of every project and recognizing design as the problem solver, is the root of every successful project.

Anyone can learn to draw with CAD but, designing is a talent that’s acquired through hard work, long hours, straining the imagination, and perseverance.

Proto Labs is a company that provides rapid manufacturing of low-volume 3D printed, CNC-machined, sheet metal, and injection-molded custom parts for prototyping and short-run production. Markets like medical devices, electronics, appliances, automotive and consumer products use these parts. Proto Labs’ headquarters and manufacturing facilities are located in Maple Plain, Minnesota. The company also has manufacturing facilities in England, Germany, and Japan.

Proto Labs was founded in 1999 by Larry Lukis, a successful entrepreneur and computer geek who wanted to radically reduce the time it took to get injection-molded plastic prototype parts. His solution was to automate the traditional manufacturing process by developing complex software that communicated with a network of mills and presses. As a result, plastic and metal parts could be produced in a fraction of the time it had ever taken before.

In 2014, they launched industrial-grade 3D printing services to allow product developers, designers, and engineers an easier path to move from early prototyping to low-volume production.

Their mission is to empower companies to bring new ideas to market by offering the fastest and most comprehensive digital manufacturing service in the world. Accelerating innovation by revolutionizing manufacturing.

The United Inventors Association of the United States of America (UIA) is a 501c3 non-profit educational organization dedicated to providing resources to the inventing community, while encouraging honest and ethical business practices among industry service providers.

Participating in a trade show is an opportunity for new inventors to test the waters, it can be very beneficial to practice pitching your product and even more important to listen to the feedback, good or bad. Whether you plan on starting your own business or licensing your product you have to be able to sell your product and that is one of the benefits of Trade Shows. The United Inventors Association has enhanced that by working with the trade shows and securing an area specifically set up for new inventors, it’s our Inventors Spotlight. You will walk away with experience, feedback and possibly a connection that could take you to the next level.

Exposure to the inner workings of a given discipline, especially at a young age, is key to developing an enduring interest. Whether sports, music, art, drama or the sciences, introducing young people to these disciplines early cultivates the sort of enthusiasm that often lasts a lifetime. Innovation is no different. And, with entrepreneurship increasingly tied to innovation, there’s a case to be made that our economy’s future rests on cultivating the spirit of innovation in today’s youth. The United Inventors Association is fully committed to this belief, and is thrilled to partner with Innovation World to advance the view that everyone can be a creator, inventor and innovator – especially young people.

The Salvation Army is a Christian church and an international charitable organization. The organization reports a worldwide membership of over 1.7 million, consisting of soldiers, officers and adherents collectively known as Salvationists. Its founders sought to bring salvation to the poor, destitute, and hungry by meeting both their “physical and spiritual needs”. It is present in 132 countries, running charity shops, operating shelters for the homeless and disaster relief, and humanitarian aid to developing countries.

Disaster relief, homeless shelters, food pantries, free cooked meals, substance rehab, after-school programs, employment assistance and so much more. The Salvation Army is known to cover so much territory to help humans get through these crappy days. They will even help you furnish your home or pay your bills in certain regions and circumstances.

They have actual stores where you can find valuable necessities, interesting trinkets and donated items that may help you serve your purpose or get your task-at-hand accomplished. If you’re not all “ultragospel-ly” or Christian at all, don’t panic or hesitate. Reach out to them anyway. You will be glad you did. Don’t ask me how I know this….. On second thought, ask me. Use the additional contacts if you need to find the Salvation Army branch in your area and get help like now.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of needy families so they can purchase healthy food and move towards self-sufficiency.

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) works to end hunger and obesity through the administration of 15 federal nutrition assistance programs including WIC, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and school meals. In partnership with state and tribal governments, our programs serve one in four Americans during the course of a year. Working with our public, private and non-profit partners, our mission is to increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet and nutrition education in a way that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence. No American should have to go hungry. FNS also co-develops the Dietary Guidelines for Americans with the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.

We are committed to ensuring access to healthy and safe food for those participating in our programs including expecting mothers; infants and children in child care and school; low-income families going to food banks; local farmers markets; and local supermarkets. These are investments that support education, health care, and a competitive workforce.

In the United States, Social Security is the term for the federal Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program. That program is run by the Social Security Administration. The current version of the Act, as amended, involves many social welfare and social insurance programs. To qualify for most of these benefits, most workers pay Social Security taxes on their earnings; the claimant’s benefits are based on the wage earner’s contributions. Otherwise benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are given based on need.

The United States Social Security Administration (SSA) is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government that assigns Social Security numbers, and administers the Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance programs. They also administer the Supplemental Security Income program for the aged, blind, and disabled.

Social Security has provided financial protection for the U.S. people for over 80 years. Chances are, you either receive Social Security benefits or know someone who does. With retirement, disability, and survivors benefits, Social Security is one of the most successful anti-poverty programs in our nation’s history.
